Introduction

Artist Jos Smit was born in 1965. Since a couple of years he is part of art painting circle 'Bessie'. His pieces belong to contemporary realism. Many people consider his work American style.

He just loves cityscapes, his paintings are characterized by a dominant perspective and large light contrasts. The play of light, both at day and night, intrique him.

The purpose is to create a certain atmosphere. It brings up feelings of melancholia, lonelyness, sadness. But also piece, beauty, fascination.

The materials he uses are acrylic on panel or acrylic on canvas. Because acrylic paint does not mingle well it results in an obvious streak which suits Jos' contrastful style well.
